VLAN (Virtual Lan)

VLAN = Broadcast Domain = Logical Network (Subnet)

* flexible

*security

-Layer 2 Security

-Divides one single Broadcast domain into Multiple broadcast domains.

-Default VLAN is VLAN one. You can create vlan 2 to 1001.

-Can be configure on manageable SW.

Benefits of VLAN

* Limit the number ot broadcast
*Better performance
*Security

Note:: Work based on port numbers
            Default all ports will be in vlan
           One port can be a member of only VLAN

 

Simple VLAN Configuration

Switch(config)#vlan 3
Switch(config-vlan)#name Finance
Switch(config-vlan)#vlan 4
Switch(config-vlan)#name Admin
Switch(config-vlan)#vlan 5
Switch(config-vlan)#nmae Marketing
Switch(config-vlan)#end

Now We created the 3 vlan for our office vlan 3 for Finance, vlan 4 for Admin, vlan 5 for Marketing. Next step we will assiging vlan.

Assigning ports

Switch(config)#interface range f0/1-3, f0/4, f0/7
Switch(config-if-range)#switchport mode access
Switch(config-if-range)#switchport access vlan3
Switch(config-if-range)#exit
Switch(config)#interface range f0/5-6, f0/8-9
Switch(config-if-range)#switchport mode access
Switch(config-if-range)#switchport access vlan4
Switch(config-if-range)#exit
Switch(config)#interface range f0/10-12
Switch(config-if-range)#switchport mode access
Switch(config-if-range)#switchport access vlan5
Switch(config-if-range)#exit
