Evaluation versions of Windows Server 2012
Fully functional time-limited evaluation versions of Windows Server 2012 are available for the following editions:
- Windows Server 2012 Standard
- Windows Server 2012 Datacenter
- Windows Server® 2012 Essentials
These evaluation versions are 64-bit only and can be installed with the Server Core option or the Server with a GUI option.
For all editions, you have 10 days to complete online activation, at which point the evaluation period begins and runs for 180 days. During the evaluation period, a notification on the Desktop displays the days remaining the evaluation period (except in Windows Server 2012 Essentials). You can also run slmgr.vbs /dlv from an elevated command prompt to see the time remaining.
Please note, this does not work for Domain Controllers running on an evaluation license.
How to upgrade Windows server 2021 R2 evaluation to Standard.
Open an Administrative Command Prompt. Then run the command:
dism /online /get-currentedition
This will confirm the information we obtained from slmgr.vbs /dlv, as you can see the current version is ServerStandardEval.
Next, run the command:
dism /online /get-targeteditions
This will show you which versions the current evaluation license can be upgraded to, in our case it can be upgraded to ServerStandard or ServerDatacenter.
dism /online /set-edition:ServerStandard /ProductKey:xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx /AcceptEula
This command selects the version of Windows 2012 R2 you want to upgrade to, specifies the product key and Accepts the Eula.
Once the process has completed it will prompt you to restart your computer
