PETALING JAYA: The government has announced an additional RM250 in Hari Raya special aid for imams, bilals, siaks, takmir, and Kafa (religious and Fardu Ain class) teachers across Malaysia.

According to the Finance Ministry, this special payment is in addition to the RM500 Aidilfitri aid for civil servants from Grade 15 and below under the public service remuneration system, as well as those in Grade 56 and below under the previous remuneration scheme. The initiative is expected to benefit over 70,000 religious personnel and educators, serving as a token of appreciation for their contributions.

“The government’s efforts in expanding sources of revenue and restructuring public finances have enabled the fair distribution of the country’s resources,” the Treasury said in a statement.

The special aid will be disbursed before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had previously announced that government retirees would also receive RM250 in special cash aid as part of the initiative for civil servants. The total cost of the program is estimated at RM900 million.

The first day of Aidilfitri is anticipated to be on March 31.
